Why is this a day to rejoice? Because Christ alone is the cornerstone.

If ordinary human cheerfulness is winsome, imagine how irresistibly attractive you become when overflowing with spiritual joy.

"You never talked to a mere mortal," wrote CS Lewis in a famous passage, and today's psalm tells why.

Any culture sunk in hedonism and fatalism is... sunk. Take a long look in the mirror, America.

"Watchman, tell us of the night, what its signs of promise are," says an old hymn based on today's reading from Isaiah.

"Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks." - I Thessalonians 5

Who minted that coin? Whose face is on it? Human beings, right? Then stop deifying them.

"The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether," quoted Lincoln from today's Psalm at a stormy hour for America.  And today at another stormy hour, they still are!

Lord Jesus, amidst the inflamed election aftermath, give us your divine ability to listen with love and answer with wisdom.

It was 98 years ago, on what we now call Veterans Day, that the end of "the War to End War" finally came.  Yet war is still so much with us.  How long, O Lord?

Think what the diagnosis of America's ills would be if placed under the spiritual discernment of Isaiah, or even more so, that of Jesus himself.

It's said that Satan's subtlest stratagem is to tell us he doesn't exist. So maybe when Alinsky dedicated his book to Lucifer, he did all good and godly people a favor.
