Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 35:1-28. Verses 17 and 22, do I feel as if God has been watching me struggle with something and yet offering no help? Verses 23 and 24, do I have permission to plead he will hurry and show up?
Deuteronomy 13:1-18. In what form, and from what source, do the enticements of false gods get at us nowadays? Leaving aside the death penalty, how shall I fortify myself against them?
Hebrews 6:1-12. Verses 4-6, related question, by what thought or deed could I be guilty of crucifying Jesus all over again? How can I guard against any such atrocity?
Matthew 5:31-37. Verse 37, am I sometimes prone to smother my relationships with God and with other people under too much shallow talk? Can I live my faith today less by words and more by actions?
