Studying this morning's readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 147:1-20. What does it look like when God, as he has promised, shows up and begins to heal a broken-hearted person? Who needs to hear about this from me today?
II Samuel 4:1 - 5:25. As David’s kingship prospers, he shows no vindictiveness to Saul’s house and faithfully relies on God in his wars. Are there big decisions where I need more God-reliance and less self-reliance?
Acts 12:6-19. An angel breaks Peter out of prison. Three times in this story, someone finds the liberation almost too good to be true. What have I been wrongly assuming is even beyond God’s reach?
Mark 5:35-43. Related, twice in the girl’s dying moments, voices of worldly wisdom tell Jesus it’s too late, she’s gone, God failed this time. But he proves otherwise. Application to my present needs.
