Bible Sunday 8/2: Sneaky Idols

Studying this morning's readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 81:1-16. Verses 8-10, am I completely free from idolatry? On any given day, what false gods are subtly at work in me, trying to crowd out the one true God?

I Kings 15:1-34. Asa, one good king of Judah in a long line of bad ones. Verse 14, Asa’s heart was perfect before the Lord all the days of his life. How can I make my heart a little more perfect before God today?

Acts 23:11-22. Paul’s nephew alertly saves him from a murder plot. What is Jesus trying to teach me when, after assuring me of a good outcome (see verse 11), he still uses a natural process to bring it about?

Mark 11:38-44. How can I be more generous today with the abundance God has entrusted to me?
