Bible Monday 7/6: Shame of the King

Studying this morning's readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 12:1-8. Verse 1, "Help, Lord.” This is the shortest of all prayers, yet fully equal to any crisis or emergency. For what urgent need shall I cry out to the sovereign Lord today?

ll Samuel 12:1-31. Nathan the prophet calls out David the king for his grave sin. When have I stumbled badly due to self-seeking, egotism, and greed? What did I learn?

Acts 14:1-7. Unbelieving Jews, about to stone Paul and Barnabas, drive them out of Iconium to Lystra. What is the gospel costing me at this time in my life; anything at all?

Mark 7:1-13. Jesus exposes the Jewish leaders’ hypocrisy, whereby they care more about food laws than about God’s commandment to honor one’s parents. When have I realized I had it all backward about how to follow Jesus? Action point for today?
