Radio, June 3: President Tancredo?

Join us on radio every Sunday, 5-8pm on 710 KNUS, Denverand now also on 1460 KZNT, Colorado Springs To listen online from anywhere, click 710knus.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------- "None of the above" seems to be gaining support in both political parties as the 2008 presidential marathon continues. Discontent with the existing candidates has people buzzing about the opportunity for a late entry and meteoric rise by Fred Thompson for the GOP or Al Gore for the Dems.

On the Republican side, it's now doubtful President Bush (if eligible to run again) could even get the nomination, let alone be reelected. So badly has he "torn the conservative coalition asunder," according to a grim piece by Peggy Noonan in the WSJ on Friday.

But at least one contender in the current GOP field is in a position to say he warned us, and that outspoken Colorado congressman is our guest on Backbone Radio this Sunday, June 3.

Tom "I'd call Jack Bauer" Tancredo, a longtime champion of secure borders and candid critic of Bush's lapses from conservatism, returns to the show for the first time since he entered the race for the White House.

** We've urged Tom to campaign as a street-fighting man, ala the Stones, and he cheerfully does so. But he has said a top-five finish in the Iowa straw poll this August is a must for his candidacy. Is that in the cards? Joshua Sharf, Matt Dunn, and Karen Kataline will ask him (I'm away on assignment this week).

** American Muslim patriot Zuhdi Jasser is another return guest for June 3. That troubling Pew poll on homegrown jihadism will surely be one topic with him.

** Plus State Rep. Rob Witwer (R-Jeffco) with a legislative and political update, and author Nicholas Taleb, whose insightful book "The Black Swan" is prompting many people to rethink the way the world works.

Radio, May 27: Memorial Day special

Decoration or desecration for 232 years of patriotic sacrifices? Update after show: Bill Federer's book, "What Every American Needs to Know about the Qur'an," is here. And Judge Robert Dierker's book on the runaway courts is at this link. Here is Frank Gaffney's online petition about PBS covering for radical Islam. State Sen. Mike Kopp, Gulf War paratroop veteran, was our guest in place of Congressman Duncan Hunter, who had to reschedule because of an airline problem.

Instead of remaining united states, it shall end up separated states." So said Osama bin Laden to ABC News in 1998. That's the aim of Al Qaeda, our main enemy in Iraq. If their goal of nuclear strikes on US cities is achieved, political collapse for America as we know it may not be an empty threat.

The Aztlan radical movement in Mexico and the American southwest also envisions separating these United States by its own strategy of demographic and cultural subversion. And if the surrender of sovereignty packaged in the Kennedy-McCain immigration bill succeeds, Aztlan might turn out to be no fantasy either. What's this have to do with Memorial (earlier Decoration) Day?

The holiday originally honored half a million Americans who died in the 1861-1865 war to keep these states united. Decorating their graves gratefully at the end of May each year was the custom. The day now recognizes our fallen fighters in all wars back to the founding.

Desecration of their sacrifice, and annulment of all our nation stands for, will result if you and I in this generation fail our trust as Americans and let disaster overtake this land of liberty. This Memorial Day must be not only a time to look back in gratitude, but also a time of renewed commitment for us to protect what they handed down to us.

Backbone Radio this Sunday, May 27, takes that theme. I hope you'll be listening.

** Duncan Hunter, Republican presidential candidate and congressman from San Diego, returns to the show with an update on both the war abroad and the battle for secure borders here at home.

** Mike Coffman, Colorado Secretary of State and a Marine veteran of both Iraq wars, brings his perspective on Memorial Day along with current political issues.

** Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy will report on PBS's refusal to air his film on radical Islam. And author William Federer will preview his new book on facts and myths about Islamic teachings.

** Plus Judge Robert Dierker of Missouri with a report on his politically incorrect book, "Tyranny of Tolerance: A Sitting Judge Breaks the Code of Silence to Expose the Liberal Judicial Assault."

Radio, May 20: Immigration capitulation

Join us on radio every Sunday, 5-8pm on 710 KNUS, DenverTo listen online from anywhere, click 710knus.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------- JOIN US, MAY 23: Luncheon on Universities vs. America; details below ------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Madam Chairman, Colorado is close to the front line of America’s unsecured southern border. We are a conduit for massive illegal traffic into this country. I dealt with the consequences as Senate President, 2003-2005. I bring you an appeal from our state to build the fence and secure the border first and foremost. I urge you not to reward lawbreakers with green cards and citizenship." So began my testimony on Thursday afternoon before the House Immigration Subcommittee in Washington.

An hour earlier, Senate Republicans and the Bush administration had announced their capitulation to Ted Kennedy and Democrats on amnesty for illegal aliens. I urged the opposite course. (See full text in an earlier post below.)

Other headlines in this busy week included Senate Democrats rejecting Harry Reed's latest Iraq surrender resolution, Republican presidential candidates holding their second debate, and more bad bills signed by Gov. Bill Ritter.

My guests Sunday evening on Backbone Radio to talk over all of it with you will include Dan Haley, the new editorial page editor of the Denver Post... Dr. Alan Crippen of the John Jay Institute... and author and columnist Joseph C. Phillips.

** Plus Ward Connerly of the American Civil Rights Institute with a preview of next year's ballot issue for a color-blind constitution in Colorado

** Plus Coloradan Brian Ivers, Marine veteran of three Iraq tours, for thoughts on Armed Forces Day 5/19 and Memorial Day 5/28.

Radio, May 13: Lost on Constitution Ave.

Join us on radio every Sunday, 5-8pm on 710 KNUS, DenverTo listen online from anywhere, click 710knus.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------- MOTHER'S DAY 2007: What's the best thing your mom did for you? ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Constitution Avenue, Independence Avenue, the Washington Monument, Capitol Hill -- those great names from our nation's capital still stir me even after a lifetime of visiting or working near them. But after being out there this week, I came back to Colorado troubled.

Many who hold power in our government are in a fog. They either don't know or don't care about the principles of our Constitution and Declaration of Independence. They're politically lost, and that includes some Republicans as well as most Democrats. It is a more critical issue for America's future than even the war in Iraq or the 2008 election.

Backbone Radio is all about renewing our self-government by giving the lost a compass to steer by and courage for the journey. This is a cooperative effort. We on the air bring the issues, ideas, and guests each Sunday. You as a listener weigh in to keep us sharp -- and act on your convictions day by day.

** Republican legislative leaders, Sen. Andy McElhany and Rep. Mike May, join me this week for a review of how bad it got with Dems running things in the recently ended session -- and what we can do now.

** We'll review recent Supreme Court action (abortion, guns, campaign finance) with Claremont legal scholar John Eastman, and get another report on the presidential races from columnist Mike Littwin.

** And before you put the car up on blocks, catch energy and economics analyst Dan Gainor for a reality check on the latest round of high gasoline prices.

Yours for self-government, JOHN ANDREWS ------------------------------------------ COWED BY RADICAL ISLAM? You may have heard about the thoughtful documentary made for PBS, "Islam vs. Islamists: Voices from the Muslim Center," that is being withheld from broadcast for fear of offending the imams. I saw a private screening, and it's powerful. This thing belongs on the air. To see the trailer and take action, go to FreetheFilm.net. ------------------------------------------ CARE TO JOIN US? May 17 7pm, Colorado Union of Taxpayers has a dessert event recapping the legislature, Sens. Mitchell and Romer debating, $10 at Aurora Hills golf club, call 303 759 9936 to reserve... And on May 23 12noon, another in my Claremont luncheon series, "Why Do Universities Run Down America?"...Regent Tom Lucero and Prof. Chris Kopff speaking, $25 at University Club, reply on this email or call 303 813 9686.

Radio, May 6: Who is the enemy?

Morning-after update, May 7: To contact your US senator and congressman about resisting Harry Reid's upcoming amnesty bill, go to NumbersUSA.com. To urge a veto of the ID-weakening bill in Colorado, email Governor.Ritter@state.co.us; be sure to include your Colorado postal address. For more on Rick Santorum and the America's enemies project, see www.eppc.org. Keep up with Dr. Jack Wheeler through his subscription website, TothePointNews.com. Follow Randall O'Toole, the anti-planner, at www.ti.org.

Join us on radio every Sunday, 5-8pm on 710 KNUS, Denver To listen online from anywhere, click 710knus.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------- "If we lost, who won?" Senator McCain's question in the GOP presidential debate ought to be an alarm bell for everyone who thinks America can just walk away from Iraq, and really from a dangerous world, without consequences to ourselves and the future of freedom. To concede defeat for our cause is to grant victory to our enemies -- Al Qaeda, Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, and the rest. Why would anyone want that?

This week on Backbone Radio we'll talk with McCain's former Senate colleague, Rick Santorum, about the America's Enemies Project. It's a new push by Santorum to wake up this country to the threat from Islamofascism, North Korea, Venezuela, China, and Russia. I pray there is still time. If we act, there is.

** Counter-insurgency expert Jack Wheeler will also be my guest for a closer look at the Islamist mentality and goals. Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies will help us tie in the border security angle.

** Kellyanne Conway of the Polling Company, a leading Republican strategist, runs the numbers for us on lessons from election 2006 for a better outcome in fast-approaching 2008.

** And with the money pit growing ever deeper for FasTracks, Denver's light rail plan, I will explore transportation alternatives with Randall O'Toole of the Thoreau Institute.

Questions abound. What did the Reagan Library debate this week tell us about an eventual Republican nominee to face Hillary or Obama next year? Or will someone else get the Democratic nomination? How well did this year's Colorado legislature and rookie Gov.Bill Ritter do in the session now wrapping up? Will state Dems live to regret their $1.8 billion tax increase?

Think it all through with Backbone Radio, Sunday at 5pm. Hope to have you with us then.

Yours for self-government, JOHN ANDREWS
