Ready for Some Watershed Thinking?

Howdy, friend, and welcome.  I'm John Andrews, mayor for life up here in the little mountain town of Backbone Colorado USA, my imaginary home of the heart, tucked far above timberline in the shadow of the Continental Divide.

I took to calling my commentary in Denver newspapers, TV, and radio "dispatches from the divide" because my aim as a writer has always been to seek out, and spell out, the ridgeline between what's right and true and what isn't.  A decision point, kind of like the rugged spine on the land from which waters flow away to one ocean or the other.

This website offers several books and writings of mine, along with dispatches on my America blog and notes on my daily Bible blog, all aimed at helping citizens (of the Republic and the Kingdom) do the sort of watershed thinking that clarifies character and fosters wise choices.  Clearer thinking is indeed a matter of survival, as Solomon knew when he warned that "as a man thinketh, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7).

In the natural world, a spine is one vital difference between the eagle or diamondback and the moth or worm.  Not hard for you and me to choose which category we'd rather be in, is it?  In human history, sad experience teaches that before nations go lifeless, they go spineless -- and current headlines make it all too plain that America may be headed that way.

But let me tell you: that will never be our country's fate if I can help it, not as long as I have breath in my body. And I bet you feel the same way.  Part of the answer is for us to step up with courage and clarity as watershed thinkers.  To set about rediscovering America's backbone.

If you agree and want to join in, wonderful.  You've come to the right place.  We sure need allies!
