Bible Friday 4/3: The Cross

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 22:1-31. Verse 1, when have I felt forsaken by God? How did I break through and connect with him again? Application to present needs?

Lamentations 4:1-22. Zion and her people, formerly fine gold, now common pottery, polluted and soon to be shattered. Don’t I see a similar cloud of sin over today’s world? Am I thankful that for this too, Christ died?

Matthew 26:58 - 27:10. Peter’s three denials of Jesus. Is there in my sinful heart the same impulse to deny our Lord, albeit unspoken or un-acted upon? Prayer point for today?

Matthews 27:11-61. Why does the worldly mind prefer Barabbas to Jesus? What can I and my church do, on the momentum of this Passion Week, to show our neighbors why Jesus is mankind’s only hope?
