Bible Saturday 4/4: No Grave Can Hold Him

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 16:1-11. Today, trusting that Jesus prayed in these very terms as he faced the cross and the grave, for what needs of my own or another’s shall I pray big, bold, confident prayers to the King of Kings?

Lamentations 5:1-22. What sins shall I lament today, searching my heart with repentance, as I humbly think on the cross of Christ and contritely await his resurrection?

John 1:38-42. Joseph and Nicodemus, secret believers, lay Jesus in the tomb. Who do I know that is “almost there” in accepting Christ? How can I help that person across the threshold of new life?

Matthew 27:62-66. Pilate and the Jewish leaders fearfully guard Jesus’ tomb. How does that same fear haunt the worldly mind today? How can I and my church more boldly proclaim, “He is risen”—?
