Bible Monday 8/3: Dutiful Doorkeeper

Studying this morning's readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 84:1-12. Verse 10, what’s involved if I set out today to be a doorkeeper in God’s house? Who or what will be wanting to go in or out? How will I know when to open or close the door I’m assigned to?

I Kings 16:1-34. Ahab, Israel’s worst king yet, marries the heathen princess Jezebel and promotes Baal-worship. Why has God allowed evil rulers through the ages, from Ahab to Hitler, etc?

Acts 23:23-35. What does all this detail about the Roman authorities’ handling of Paul have to teach me about God’s care for his anointed ones?

Mark 13:1-13. Verse 11, when has the Holy Spirit given me just the right words at a crucial moment? Application to present needs?
