Radio, May 28: Memorial Day Edition

Join us on radio every Sunday, 5-8pm on 710 KNUS, DenverTo listen online from anywhere, click 710knus.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let the time never come when "we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic." That was the goal of the first Memorial Day proclamation by Gen. John Logan in 1868.

And it's our goal on the next edition of "Backbone Radio with John Andrews," this Sunday, May 28, on the eve of Memorial Day 2006. I invite you to listen in and call in. Our guests and topics will help give this holiday weekend the patriotic significance it deserves.

** We'll talk with two veterans of the war in Iraq. Iowa National Guardsman B. J. Jackson says he is proud to have served, despite the loss of both legs in a terror attack. "Major E" is an Air Force officer who must do interviews incognito. Before serving in Iraq he did counter-terrorism duty in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

** Author and radio host Dennis Prager, heard every weekday morning on 710 KNUS and nationally, will join the conversation with his analysis of America's dangerous hesitancy in the face of a determined Islamofascist enemy.

** Waldo Benavidez, a Democrat who is my co-chair in Defend Colorado Now, the petition campaign to end handouts for illegal aliens, brings an update on this vital issue. Gen. Logan's reference to an "undivided republic" has new relevance amidst today's radical Latino dreams of "reconquista" and Aztlan.

** And we'll ask Education Commissioner Bill Moloney about the state of civic education in Colorado -- so important to the preparation of a new generation of citizens who will value our nation's heritage enough to defend it at all costs.

Gratitude for the blessings of liberty, and keeping faith with our armed forces who defend those blessings, is in Gen. Logan's words a "solemn trust" to be honored each Memorial Day "as long as the light of life remains to us."

Tune in as we honor that trust from 5-8pm this Sunday, May 28, on 710 KNUS in Denver and 710knus.com around the world. Call in with your two-cents at 303-696-1971. Or comment by email, during the show or right now, at backboneradio@aol.com.

There's nothing else quite like Backbone Radio, the most principled, most patriotic, most faith-based, most Colorado-proud spot on the dial. Tune in for another lively Sunday evening of fact, opinion, and insight.

Yours for self-government, JOHN ANDREWS ------------------------------------------------------------------ Term limits for judges? was the front page banner headline in Tuesday's Denver Post. A ballot issue I am working on would make Colorado the first state to say "12 years and off" to judges on our Supreme Court and Appeals Court, where most of the maverick lawmaking occurs. The bench and bar are not happy at this modest step toward greater accountability -- but polling suggests strong public support.
