Bible Tuesday 1/17: Abram Renamed

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalm 39:1-13. When have I done harm by letting my tongue be unbridled or on fire (verses 1-3, see also James 3)? What was God's lesson in that for me? Have I more to learn?

Genesis 17:1-27. What elements of hope and what elements of sorrow can we find in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all having arisen from God's dealings with Abraham?

Hebrews 9:11-22. Do I and my church value the blood of Jesus as highly as we should? Why is his blood a special object of scoffers?

Matthew 5:31-37. Do I and my church take divorce as seriously as Jesus did? If not, why not? Action steps?
