Bible Wednesday 11/1: Persecution

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalm 111:10. Verse 10, rather than start with God in all things, like most people I compartmentalize. In daily life, what kinds of wisdom do I fail to ground in him?

II Chronicles 12:1-16. Verses 9-10, shields of gold or brass. In what way do I or my church get by with less than the best because we've substituted self-reliance for God-reliance?

Matthew 5:1-12. How if at all does persecution, the only thing taught twice in Christ's Beatitudes, touch my experience or that of my church at present? Are we holding back?

Revelation 7:1-8. Noting how the twelve tribes of Israel are to be sealed for the end times, what should be my stance as a Christian toward the Jews in history and in our world today?
