Bible Sunday 11/12: Milk and Honey

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalm 34:1-22. Verse 8, taste of the Lord. How does God's nourishment feed me like, but better than... meat, milk, honey, salt, bread, wine... ? Which do I especially need today?

II Chronicles 23:1-21. Here God uses a priest to replace an unrighteous ruler with a righteous one. Granted this isn't the role of pastors today, what is their role vis a vis civil government?

I Thessalonians 4:9-18. Am I ready for Christ's return? What's required of me in the meantime? Do I and my church give this sufficient emphasis?

Luke 16:14-18. Verse 15, God knows our hearts. What does he see in mine today that grieves him? How shall I confess this, repent and mend my ways?
