Bible Friday 2/5: Against the Grain

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 89:1-52. Verses 46-49, asking God why, who, when, how long. What struggle or sorrow moves me to cry out to him in this way right now?

Genesis 36:1-43. Esau’s descendants, out of the mainstream of salvation history yet still immortalized in God’s word. Who in my daily round may be precious to Him, though I tend to overlook them?

Hebrews 13:1-17. Verses 12-14, does my church swim more with or against the cultural currents of our times? My role?

Matthew 10:34-42. Verse 39, related question, are there some ways in which Jesus wants me to go against the grain of worldly inclinations, that I may be ignoring at present?
