Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 42:1-11. Verses 5 and 11, what am I discouraged or downhearted about today? What does God offer me to counteract that?
Genesis 18:1-33. God promises Abraham and Sarah a son. Verse 14, as things are bad in our country right now and I’m praying big prayers, is there a voice of doubt telling me “that’s too hard even for God”?
Hebrews 11:8-16. If I and my family are pilgrims just as Abraham was, seeking the heavenly city, why concern ourselves with the earthly city at all? How does God want us to balance the two?
Matthew 6:25-34. Verse 33, by what attitudes and actions shall I show God today I’m seeking his kingdom first, even as I go on doing all that’s required of me?
