Bible Thursday 9/2: Time for Choosing

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 5:1-12. Verse 7, how have I recently experienced God’s mercy? How can I thank him today?

Joshua 24:1-33. Verse 15, “choose whom you will serve,” Joshua’s famous challenge to Israel. Why, in these times, does it seem more and more are choosing against the living God? What is my church doing about it?

II Corinthians 2:12-3:3. Verse 3, the best “letter about Christianity” is the devoted Christian himself or herself. If I’m to measure up to this standard today, what must be my attitudes and actions?

Luke 6:27-36. In commanding me to love my enemies, what specifically does Jesus expect in light of the menace and hate emanating from Kabul, Moscow, Beijing—and sometimes Washington DC?
