Bible Sunday 8/15: The Holy Family

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 108:1-13. Verses 7-10, God’s sovereignty over every place on the map: Afghanistan, Haiti, Washington, Silicon Valley, etc. What locale shall I prayerfully commit to his righteous authority today?

Joshua 6:1-27. Joshua conquers Jericho with seven days’ march. What test of my patient, persistent, obedient, faithful faith is God placing upon me at present? Shall I give up after the sixth day?

John 2:1-12. Verse 5, Mary points us all to her Son: “Do whatever he tells you.” What’s the application of this to an issue I’m facing today?

Luke 2:41-50. Lessons of the Holy Family for my own family. What light do Mary and Joseph’s experiences as parents shed on my challenges in exercising (or submitting to) parental authority?
