Bible Sunday 1/23: The Healer

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 63:1-11. Verse 1, early will I seek Thee. Why do I tend to think of prayer as a last resort instead of a first resort? How can I do better at that this week?

Deuteronomy 23:1-25. What can I learn of the character of God from all these detailed regulations he imposed on his people? Are we better off in modernity to declare ourselves “free” of such a demanding God?

Hebrews 10:26-39. Verse 29, trampling Christ underfoot, discounting his precious blood, spiting the Holy Spirit. Before reflexively brushing this off as “not me,” am I sure none of my recent actions have done just that?

Matthew 8:14-17. Who is in need of the healing touch of Jesus the Great Physician, right now today? Shall I reach out to them?
