Bible Friday 8/5: Bear Down

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 89:1-52. Verse 6, who or what am I sometimes inclined to see as more accessible than God, more reliable than God, more important than God? What happens when I do so?

I Kings 5:1-18. Allying with Tyre, Solomon prepares to build the temple. What qualities are required in God’s people to build successfully? How does my church measure up? My role?

II Peter 1:1-11. Verses 5 and 10 KJV, Peter twice asks me for diligence in fruitfully following Christ and entering his kingdom. The opposite would be an erratic or sporadic approach. What’s the action point for me?

Mark 12:1-12. Verse 7, what does the worldly mind seek to gain by getting rid of Jesus? How is this have-it-all impulse sometimes subtly attractive even to me? What is God’s remedy?
