Bible Saturday 7/30: Get or Give?

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 79:1-13. Verse 11, for what prisoners shall I pray today, whether held as individuals or as groups, whether imprisoned materially or spiritually?

II Samuel 23:1-39. Honor roll of David’s mighty men. What men and women, mighty in the Lord and kindly toward me, do I remember with special gratitude today?

Acts 17:1-15. Verse 6, in what way can it still be said even today that the gospel of Jesus Christ turns our world upside down? Is my church fully alive to that revolutionary potential? My role?

Mark 10:32-45. James and John brashly dream big. When have I recently approached Jesus more to get something from him than to give myself to him?
