Bible Thursday 8/11: Give!

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 104:1-35. Verse 23, does my daily work tend to burden me or rejoice me? How would God have me regard it? What duty of work might he have in store for me, when I am ready to receive it?

I Kings 11:1-43. Verses 7-13, not so wise after all, Solomon breaks faith with God, for which his descendants will pay. What weakness in me endangers all my strengths? Prayer point?

Acts 20:17-38. Paul’s farewell sermon to the Ephesians. As one of the heroes of salvation history, what did he have that Solomon didn’t? Verse 35, obeying Jesus, how can I make today more about giving than receiving?

Mark 13:3-13. Verse 6, how is the warning against false Christs playing out in our times? Verse 11, how can I avail myself today of the Holy Spirit’s gift to believers for potent communication?
