Bible Monday 12/29: New Jerusalem

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 144:1-15. Verse 1, what is the war or the fight that King David says God will teach me about? How does it become a hands-on struggle, nothing at arms’ length—a conflict at my fingertips?

Jonah 2:1-10. Jonah prays from within the whale, the ocean bottom—the very belly of hell, verse 2—and God hears him. What is the most desperate prayer of mine that God ever answered? Present application?

Revelation 21:1-8. What can I be doing herein now, day by day, to prepare myself and others to live with King Jesus in the New Jerusalem?

Matthew 25:1-13. Related, heading into the new year, how shall I ask Jesus to help me be better prepared for his return—more watchful and alert, more steady on task, more confident of his promises, more patient in the waiting?
