Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 18:1-50. Verse 35, how have I experienced God’s gentleness? Who needs gentleness from me today?
Jeremiah 23:1-40. God’ anger at seeing his beloved flock, the church, badly led, badly taught, and badly protected by its pastors (shepherds). How is this occurring here and now? What is my church doing about it?
Romans 15:7-13. Why is the God we know through Jesus Christ a God of hope? What specific hope from him am I cherishing today? How can I avoid false or misplaced hope?
Matthew 14:1-12. Related, why would Herod’s murder of John the Baptist have seemed a blow to Jesus’ hopes? How did Jesus handle it? What’s the lesson for me today?
