Bible Sunday 6/28: In a Crowd

Studying this morning's readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 140:1-13. Verse 3, what are some examples of the poisonous words and voices that clamor incessantly in our world? How can I take refuge in God so that I neither spread the poison nor am harmed by it?

II Samuel 2:1-32. Civil war among the Israelites after Saul dies. In what form do warlike urges, violent ambition, overweening self-will, press in on me? How can I reject them with God’s help?

Acts 11:27 - 12:5. King Herod executes James and imprisons Peter. Have I ever seen a whole church rise up in prayer, as the believers did for Peter? What would it take?

Mark 5:21-34. Who do I know that needs Jesus the Great Physician today? Have I made it too complicated, this matter of coming to him for help, when merely touching the edge of his robe can change everything?
