Bible Friday 6/5: Golgotha

Studying this morning's readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 88:1-18. A dark song of lament from a troubled soul. What was the lowest I have ever been? How did God show up?

I Samuel 10:1-27. Saul’s kingship begins, albeit with forebodings by both himself and Samuel. When has God placed on me a task I didn’t feel ready for? What was the outcome?

Acts 5:33-42. Verse 41, to suffer shame for his name. What’s happening in my life right now that I’m tempted to feel is a burden and perhaps unfair—but for which I should instead thank Jesus for the honor of suffering for him?

John 19:17-30. If I could sit down for a quiet talk with Jesus today, what might he say is the best way for me to commemorate—and benefit from—his sacrificial death on the cross?
