Bible Thursday 7/23: To Serve

Studying this morning's readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 62:1-12. Verse 8, pour out your heart to God. Today shall I make my prayers honest and real as never before, so that God knows I am confiding my all to him, holding nothing back?

I Kings 5:1-18. Helped by his friend King Hiram, Solomon prepares to build the temple. What am I building (spiritually as well as materially) that will outlive me?

Acts 19:21-41. Idol-makers riot at Ephesus, fearing Paul’s gospel will impoverish them. What are the worldly interests today that want to silence Jesus for the same reason? What is my church doing about it?

Mark 10:32-45. Jesus’ disciples, arguing about personal prestige, are again deaf to his warning about the cross. How do I sometimes fall into the same trap?
