Backbone Radio

Four more years?

Slated on Backbone Radio, November 11 Listen every Sunday, 5-8pm on 710 KNUS, Denver.. 1460 KZNT, Colorado Springs... and streaming live at 710knus.com.

"Four more years" was the chant in the first campaign I worked on, Nixon 1972. Memories of those days as a speechwriter enliven my recent piece, "White House ghosts, unite!" Now Republicans again seek to hold the presidency for four more years, and our program -- with your help -- will cover all the action for 2008 and years beyond. On the Nov. 11 show, we'll talk with Congressman Tom Tancredo about his presidential run and political future... also with Congressman Doug Lamborn about GOP hopes of regaining the House.

** Retired Army Col. Joe Ruffini helps us observe Veterans' Day and looks at radical Islam in the USA, the subject of his book "When Terror Comes to Main Street."

** Denver Post columnist David Harsanyi looks into the mind of Bill "Collective Bargaining &Climate Change" Ritter. And Brian Kennedy, President of the Claremont Institute, sizes up today's conservative movement.

And please come to the party: Colorado listeners are invited to Lodo's in Highlands Ranch, SW corner of Quebec & C-470, as we do Sunday's show live on location to celebrate three years on the air. Thank you for helping us make it this far up the mountain. Join us for refreshments and friendship, 5-8pm.

There may even be a moment at the microphone for you, if you're present at Lodo's for the festivities. Otherwise call us with your two cents at 303-696-1971. Thanks for a great three years; here we go with four more!

War, what war?

Slated on Backbone Radio, November 4 Listen every Sunday, 5-8pm on 710 KNUS, Denver.. 1460 KZNT, Colorado Springs... and streaming live at 710knus.com.

Democrats seeking to be president give us more and more reasons to say no. Now it's Joe Biden using the 9/11 attacks as a joke punchline ridiculing Rudy Giuliani. Before it was John Edwards saying the war on terror is only a bumper sticker, not a real conflict. Will the American people buy this childish denial? Not if the Republicans, campaigning as grownups, have anything to say about it.

** The war is very real, and on the 4th we'll talk about how it's going with Angelo Codevilla of the Claremont Institute and Daveed Gartenstein-Ross from the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies.

** Election 2007 is upon us, and the 2008 contests are heating up as well. Mike Littwin joins me to talk about Tancredo leaving Congress -- and the Rockies' big year. Scott Gessler deconstructs the Denver tax and bond proposal. Mary Weaver, mayoral candidate in Golden, talks about suburban races.

** Plus Robert Peters from Morality in Media with a plan to counteract what Laura Ingraham calls the pornification of America and I call the cultural sewer.

And Mark Your Calendar for Nov. 11: Join me for our third birthday party, 5-8pm on 11/11 at Lodo's in Highlands Ranch, SW corner of Quebec & C-470. It's the weekend after the election, as well as Veterans' Day, so there will be a lot to talk about as we broadcast live from the middle of the celebration. No charge, no reservations, it's just my way of saying thanks to all the friends who've helped us build Backbone Radio since we went up in November 2004.

Three years of weekend radio, 150 shows, where did the time go? Only yesterday we were celebrating Bush's second term and learning to say "Speaker Romanoff." Now the focus is preventing a third Clinton term, painting Colorado red again, and victory for civilization against the barbarians. Plenty to keep us busy -- but all very doable with your help, fellow patriots.

Yours for self-government, JOHN ANDREWS

Hope for inner-city kids

Slated on Backbone Radio, October 28 Listen every Sunday, 5-8pm on 710 KNUS, Denver.. 1460 KZNT, Colorado Springs... and streaming live at 710knus.com.

Our World Series pregame edition will be live at five to talk with Heather O'Mara of Hope Academy Online about web-based charter schools for those inner-city kids who are too often left behind... with Richard Allen about the old days with Reagan and the uncertain days of 2008... plus a conversation on baseball and politics with liberal commentator Jim Spencer.

Starting at 6:30, as I depart for a bit of research on the significance of sports in American life, the show will replay some of the Best of Backbone. You'll hear my interviews with Iraq-based combat blogger Michael Yon... with documentary producer Raphael Shore, whose movie "Obsession" rips the mask off radical Islam... and with Douglas Gresham, stepson of CS Lewis and adviser to the "Narnia" film series.

And finally, save the date of Sunday, Nov. 11: Join me for our third annual radio birthday party, 5-8pm on 11/11 at Lodo's in Highlands Ranch, SW corner of Quebec & C-470. It's the weekend after the election, as well as Veteran's Day, so there will be a lot to talk about as we broadcast live from the middle of the celebration. No charge, no reservations, it's just my way of saying thanks to all the friends who've helped us build this show since we went on the air in November 2004.

Three years of weekend radio, 150 shows, where did the time go? Seems only yesterday we were gloating over Kerry's defeat and gulping at the words "Speaker Romanoff." A listener wrote me that in her opinion, our show just keeps getting better. Thanks, we're sure trying, and the bouquet makes up for recent brickbats from two Democrat gals who want my column spiked. Win some, lose some, so it goes; ask Clint Hurdle.
