Bible Tuesday 10/25: Oil of Gladness

Psalm 45:1-17. Struck by the way verses 6-7 here are identified with Jesus Christ in Hebrews 1:8-9, how can I be more alert to Messiah's presence throughout the Psalms?  (As Reardon's book reminds us.)

Nehemiah 12:1-47. "The joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off" (verse 43, KJV). What if the joy of my church was talked about in homes, schools, stores, and offices for miles around?

Philippians 4:10-23. Why do I more often seek the strength of Christ (verse 13) than the contentment of Christ (verses 11-12)? Can I dwell in that when discontent chafes me this week?

Luke 15:11-32. Where do I harbor little pockets of the "elder brother" attitude toward Christians with messy lives and toward the God who loves them anyway? Who do I think I am?

These are some of the questions I asked myself in studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide. Click and see what you think.  Where is your self-examination leading today?
