Bible Sunday 8/19: The Summons

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 118:1-29. Verse 18, what is the toughest chastening God has ever given me? What is the toughest chastening I ever had to give someone else? Why, in each case, was it worthwhile?

II Kings 15:1-38. Wave of assassinations. How does all this political turmoil relate to the spiritual disorder and disobedience of the Chosen People at that time?

Philippians 3:1-13. Verse 12, Paul in Jesus' grip. Am I in Jesus' grip? What are the inward signs of that, operating in me, changing me? What are the outward signs that others might notice?

Mark 10:46-52. Verse 49, if Jesus right now were summoning me to come near him and receive something from him, how would I know? What would he want to give me? Action point?
