Bible Tuesday 7/7: Martyrdom

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 18:1-50. Verse 29 KJV, leaping the wall. What big obstacle do I need God to help me surmount today? Is it all up to him, or must I do my part?

II Samuel 5:1-25. Why has God allowed the struggle over Jerusalem between David’s people and David’s enemies to go on for 3000 years? What is Jerusalem to me as an American Christian in the 21st century?

Acts 11:27-12:4. Even though we don’t now face death or prison for Jesus’ sake, what kind of persecution must I and my family and my church be ready for in these wicked times? What does being ready entail?

Mark 6:53-56. What sort of baby steps or ABC’s of the Christian life are spiritually symbolized by just touching the hem of Jesus’ robe? How can I weave a few more of those into my day today?
