Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 81:1-16. Verse 1, why is God pleased when we not only talk to him but also sing to him? What song or hymn shall I take as my spiritual theme for today?
Hosea 7:1-16. Verses 4-7, the hot oven of wickedness. Where do we see at present this spectacle of overheated evil, shameless and quenchless? What is my church doing about it? My role?
Acts 25:13-27. Verse 19, Jesus, whom the authorities thought they were rid of, enters the official records of Roman Palestine. Are there similar small clues at present, hinting at Christianity’s ultimate defeat of atheism and paganism? My role?
Mark 13:24-37. Verse 31, related question, with many of the old certainties of our civilization being swept away, what are some words of Jesus that I can be sure will not pass away?
