Bible Thursday 1/27: Feel the Burn

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 66:1-20. Verse 10, when have I experienced God’s refining fire, intended to purify me like silver? What does he want from me as a result?

Deuteronomy 27:1-26. God’s curse on whoever disobeys him. Doe this fit my experience in any way? How does it match the character of a God who pours out grace and mercy?

Hebrews 11:23-29. Verse 26, Moses renounced Egypt’s treasures for Christ’s riches. How do I face a similar choice amid the affluence and hedonism of America today?

Matthew 9:1-9. Which do I need more today, relief of suffering or remission of sins? Where could I imagine a better source for either one of them, other than Jesus Christ?
