Bible Saturday 9/3: Be Thou Clean

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 9:1-20. Verses 4, 7, 8, 16, 19, our God judges justly. Am I swept along with the tide of the times that looks in vain for manmade justice?

II Kings 12:1-21. King Jehoash repairs the temple, buys off Syria, and is assassinated. Have I ever, in spiritual terms, tried to bribe an enemy for cheap peace instead of running to God for true victory?

Job 6:1-14. Terrorized (he thinks) by God’s poison arrows, Job begs to be put out of his misery. Why do we, as followers of the biblical God, oppose mercy-killing and assisted suicide?

Luke 5:12-16. To whom can I unexpectedly reach out today with Christ’s love—someone that may need it as much as this leper needed the touch of Jesus?
