Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 18:1-50. Verse 39, girded with strength. What capabilities and qualities do I most want God to strengthen in me today? For what purpose or result?
II Kings 15:1-38. A procession of bad kings in both Judah and Israel. Am I clear there is no political salvation? Is my church clear?
Job 8:1-22. Bildad preaches at Job with glib religious platitudes. What strong human gift or aptitude do I have that gets in the way of humbly allowing God to use me according to his will, not mine?
Luke 5:33-39. Thinking of the whole church as Jesus’ bride, and him as the bridegroom, what pattern of feasting and fasting should I follow to best honor him?
