Bible Friday 3/29: But God

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 22:1-31. The forsaken Messiah’s awful cry in verse 1 is answered with “but God” in verses 3, 9, and 19. To what bad situation in my life right now should I defiantly retort “but God”?

Lamentations 4:1-22. Zion in despair, gold and diamonds thrown away. How shall I pray for God’s self-sacrifice on the cross to redeem not only individuals but whole communities and nations?

John 19:17-37. Verses 25-27, why does it seem the women closest to Jesus had more courage and daring to keep stand by him on Calvary than the men did?

Matthew 26:57-27:61. Verse 69, if tested as Peter was, would I do better than he did? What unsuspected forms might the test take in my everyday life this year?
