Bible Friday 1/2: As each day dawns

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 5:1-12. Verse 3, am I sure that God is well pleased with the priority I give him in my morning routine? Starting a new year, is this a good time to adjust that priority?

Ecclesiastes 2:1-26. The King, or Preacher, sadly concludes that wealth, prestige, power, and all the creature comforts are but vanity and vexation after all, for death erases them. Is he wrong? Why bother with life anyway?

I John 2:7-17. To counteract the world-weary ennui of Ecclesiastes, shall I base my 2026 resolutions on a truer love of God and neighbor according to this passage, putting to silence the wicked one, Satan?

John 1:19-28. In everything I say and do today, how can I help to make straight the way of the Lord?
