Bible Thursday 1/1: With Haste

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 102:1-28. The Psalmist laments that our days and years are an exhausting struggle when they are out of step with the days and years or God. How shali I get in step starting today?

Ecclesiastes 1:1-18. Related but much worse, King Solomon—famed for being wise—says it’s all a bad joke God has played on man, for wisdom turns out to be just so much grief. What’s my answer when a student asks me about this?

Luke 2:1-21. The wondrous birth at Bethlehem was over, but its impact was just beginning. What changes had begun, and were continuing, in Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds? And what changes in me this very day?

John 1:1-18. Verse 14, how are this day and this year full of new possibilities for me and mine because the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth?
