Bible Friday 5/16: Woman on the Brink

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 37:1-40. Verses 1, 7, 8, what have I been fretting about lately, wasting time and energy, doubting God? Shall I divert all that today to prayer and praise instead?

Exodus 27:1-21. Verse 20, with or without a physical altar and flame, what is the spiritual flame God commands me to keep ever burning in my heart? Is mine in danger of flickering out as the weary years drag on?

I Corinthians 12:12-31. Verses 24-27, what small, simple, practical thing could I start doing to knit our church closer together as the body of Christ? How could our ministry to neighbors be more fruitful as a result?

John 8:1-11. Related, does my church tend to be too harsh on sin or too lenient—or both at once? What can we learn from Jesus’ reprieve of this wrecked woman staring death in the face?
