Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?
Psalms 84:1-12. Verse 10, what will it look like for me to have to choose again and again today between serving humbly in God’s house or dwelling proudly with the wicked?
Amos 4:1-13. Israel’s stubborn refusal to learn from God’s severe warnings. In what way have I or someone close to me been a slow learner for the Lord, inviting disastrous consequences? Action point for today?
Acts 21:1-14. Related but opposite, Paul’s unswerving pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Who is someone I know that exemplifies this kind of fearless, selfless determination to witness for Jesus at any cost?
Mark 9:42-50. Related again, if I am brave enough today to undertake the unsparing self-scrutiny Jesus asks of us, what might I find that needs to be rooted out and thrown away so I am fit to enter his kingdom?
