Bible Thursday 9/4: It Begins

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 16:1-11. Verse 8, if I keep the Lord always at my right hand, what would be my resulting attitudes and actions as I go through this day?

Judges 1:1-36. Contrary to God’s command, the Israelites fail to drive all the heathen tribes out of Canaan. When have I tried to compromise with sin and evil? What did I learn? Present application?

II Corinthians 6:1-10. Paul pens a vivid self-portrait of his life-experiences as a minister of God. Which ones, darker or brighter, can I identify with? On which ones shall I press harder in the coming year?

Luke 3:23-38. Jesus’ human ancestry through his foster father, Joseph. What qualities did God imbue in Joseph to equip him for this vital role in salvation history? How can I express these today?
