Bible Sunday 9/21: Under Authority

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 56:1-13. Verses 3 and 4, in what way has fear been trying to get at me lately? How can I take refuge in God and face today unafraid?

Judges 18:1-31. Manmade idols and household gods become the spoils of war as the tribes contend for power. Do I sometimes treat God not as my dearest treasure, but merely a means to an end?

James 2:14-26. Related, taking stock as honestly as I can, where must I admit that my works don’t measure up to my faith? What’s to be done?

Luke 7:1-10. Recognizing Jesus’ supreme authority as God’s Son, a Roman soldier sees his servant healed with just a word. What’s going on in my life right now, where I need to see that authority prevail?
