Why our family prays the Psalms

The Psalms, 150 powerful poems standing at the very center of our Bible, are the ancient, unequaled prayer book and song book of God‘s people.  Our family loves to read the Psalms daily, learn them by heart, and pray them aloud together. They are an inexhaustible resource for the hope, faith, courage, and resolve we all need amid this pandemic.

My evangelical Presbyterian congregation, Greenwood Community Church in Denver, has been doing a short devotional video each day as a way of keeping staying together spiritually whilel gathered worship is suspended.

Today as an elder it was my turn to contribute something, and I did a reflection on Psalms 27, “The Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear?“ (Answer: neither contagion or recession or death nor the devil himself.) Here is the way my little piece went.

So join us in praying the Psalms. There are 149 more where this one came from.  I urge you and your family to give it a try.
