Bible Sunday 7/6: Mighty in Meekness

Studying this morning's four readings from the St. James Daily Devotional Guide (click to subscribe), I examined myself with these questions. Where is your self-examination leading today?

Psalms 17:1-15. Verse 8, in praying for God to keep me as the apple of his eye, what benefits can I surely expect from him today? From what troubles can I count on him to protect or spare me?

Numbers 12:1-16. When Moses’ sister and brother turn on him, God fiercely chastises them. Have I ever been at enmity with my own family? How has meekness (verse 3) put me in right standing with God?

Acts 11:1-18. Peter rebuts the Jewish believers who disagree with welcoming Cornelius and other Gentile converts. How can my church do better at proclaiming the universal offer of Christ? My role?

Mark 3:13-19. Jesus ordains the twelve, ranging from Peter all the way to Judas. Looking back honestly, what qualities in me would have taken a chance on the Nazarene and what qualities would have kept me away?
